Parliamentary Inquiry into NGO Funding
This month, a parliamentary committee was formed by the Knesset to investigate the funding sources of human rights organizations. This step represents a dangerous escalation of the ongoing campaign against human rights organizations led by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the head of Yisrael Beiteinu, as well as other right-wing political parties, and the extremist Im Tirtzu organization. This attack on Adalah and other human rights organizations that work on cases to promote and protect the rights of Palestinians in the 1967 Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) began in the wake of our cooperation with the Goldstone Mission and our influence on its final conclusions. This activity angered many right-wing Israeli actors, who accused these groups of inciting against the Israeli army and of helping to expose Israeli practices during the recent war on the Gaza Strip. This attack constitutes an attempt to intimidate human rights organizations in Israel, to prevent them from continuing their work against the practices of the Occupation, and to create the impression that they are funded by 'terrorist organizations' and illegal sources.
